After watching Tottenham Hotspur fade in the second half again and again last season, a report from the Athletic about players feeling fit and sharp is a positive.

Despite headlines focusing on the negative, a recent report on Tottenham Hotspur under Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo from the Athletic was overwhelmingly positive. According to Charlie Eccleshare, the Spurs players feel both fitter and sharper than they did under Jose Mourinho.

A negative twist on a positive story?

Despite Eccleshare’s article being mostly positive, including pointing out the impact new signing Bryan Gil should have, the Spur’s Web took this article in a different direction.

Instead of focusing on Bryan or other signings noted in the article or the positive vibe around the club, they went the other way. First, for those that cannot access the article behind a paywall, to be clear, no players were quoted using the words distant or uncommunicative, only the outlet.

The Athletic said that ” generally, the atmosphere at Hotspur Way is very positive at the moment. Nuno doesn’t speak very much to the players outside of matches and training sessions, but they’re enjoying working with him.”

Now how “enjoying working with him” has gone into distant and uncommunicative is beyond me. Sure he doesn’t talk much outside of the matches and sessions, he is not the players’ friend. Instead, I would imagine Santos is speaking with Fabio Paratici and members of his staff when he is not with the team.

We all need to do better as Tottenham fans

Now it is within Spur’s Web’s right to take a negative twist from an article but as fans of the club, we need to do better. Given the chaos of last season under Mourinho and the constant negativity surrounding the club, the least we can do as fan journalists is try to be positive.

Sure the Athletic was awful for Spurs under Mourinho with constant attacks and innuendo but we do not need to assume more of the same and should not go looking for the negative. We need to at least try and look for the positive and go for that, our fans and players deserve that.

While the feeling fit and sharp headline may not get the clicks we all want like a negative headline will, it creates the community and culture we want;  which is a positive one for fans in and around the club.

Besides, if we as fans want to get upset or frustrated about something, we still have almost three weeks in the transfer window and we have a ton of work to do.
