As if the ongoing search to find the next coach was not enough of a prolonged chase for Tottenham Hotspur fans this summer, enter the pursuit of Cristian Romero.

Cristian Romero is an Argentine center-back, currently playing on loan from Juventus at Atalanta, and has been reported as a top Tottenham transfer target. The 23-year-old center-back is still not back to training as he spent his summer with Giovani Lo Celso and Argentina winning the Copa America. However, Romero is reportedly returning to training on Monday, where if Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, he is going to inform the club of his desire to move to Tottenham.

Money is still the Spurs sticking point

As has been the case historically for Tottenham Hotspur over the last decade-plus, the club has struggled to ante-up the largest purses for the best players. While Manchester City is weighing up a potential £100 million bid for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, a few years ago, Tottenham struggled to offer £25 million.

In the last two seasons, Ruben Dias and Bruno Fernandes looked like they were coming to N17, and then the transfer never materialized. Following a similar journey with the head coach this past summer, I think all fans were hoping for a smoother transfer market.

New Director of Football Fabio Paratici has seemingly improved things in that we have gotten some new names associated with the club and he has managed to sell a few players. However, this Romero situation, which has been going on for a couple of weeks makes it seem like business as usual for Spurs. However, with Paratici in charge maybe that is not the case.
