As if any Tottenham supporters had any doubt, Harry Kane showed his indomitable, almighty character in leading England to a historic 2-0 win over Germany.

The naysayers were on Kane’s back from the onset of the tournament. After two uncharacteristically mediocre displays to open Euro 2020, scrutiny came thick and fast, unfairly and prematurely piled on Kane’s shoulders.

Pundits and bystanders alike were calling for Kane’s head, questioning whether the England captain should retain his starting spot. That scrutiny was as misplaced as it was absurd. And Kane yet again proved it in today’s monumental triumph against Germany. His unassailable character shone through, with Tottenham’s ace leading the lines with unparalleled determination and resolve.

He admittedly started slow in the first 30 minutes of the encounter, managing just two touches a third the way through the fixture. But he grew in confidence and gained more control as time elapsed. Kane, had it not been for a last-gasp challenge by Mats Hummels, would have scored on the cusp of halftime.

The captain played an instrumental role in Raheem Sterling’s opener. Kane, composed as always, laid it off to Jack Grealish on top of the box. The creative Aston Villa man played it wide to Luke Shaw, who put it on a platter for Sterling.

Kane then put the nail in Germany’s coffin with a quintessential header. Grealish knocked it into a great area, but slightly behind England’s leader. Kane adjusted his body to nod home from close range, sending Wembley into utter euphoria.

The match was yet another testament to the type of leader Kane is, for both club and country. The resilience and mental strength he showed to brush aside widespread public scrutiny will come as no surprise to Spurs supporters, who have appreciated his unwavering magnificence with each passing season.
