Son Heung-min is reportedly close to signing a new contract that would see him remain at Tottenham for the foreseeable future.

While it’s not yet a done deal, this would finally represent some excellent news for a club mired in deep-seated adversity. Sonny is a fundamental member of a Tottenham rebuild. His quality and character are invaluable in north London.

There are doubts as to whether Son will remain at Spurs if Harry Kane decides to leave the club. Son himself said he would be extremely disappointed if Kane leaves, but would not comment further about his future if Tottenham’s talisman is sold after Euro 2020.

Seeing Son depart Hotspur Way would cause a widespread ripple effect and have an immeasurably damaging impact on the club. It’s crucial Tottenham do whatever it takes to convince Sonny to stay for the long term.

Bundles of anti-Tottenham individuals are spouting off on Twitter about Son’s probable renewed long-term commitment to the north London club. Some say he’s unambitious and has no desire of winning trophies, while others believe his dreams will die if he renews his contract with Spurs.
