Chrisitan Eriksen collapsed during the first half of Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland, causing incredibly distressing and worry scenes from Copenhagen.

Medical staff rushed onto the field to perform CPR on the fallen Denmark star, who was unconscious at the time.

The match was suspended as onlookers and players looked on in horror, hoping the 29 year old’s situation improves. Eriksen was one of Tottenham’s most influential players for seven years. Eriksen went to ground unchallenged. Denmark players and Eriksen’s wife were understandably disconsolate.

Denmark has high hopes of advancing from a group that includes Finland, Russia and Belgium. But football for now pales importance to Eriksen’s condition and the hope that he can recover from a scene that was incredibly difficult to watch.

It’s an incident players hope never happens, and one that puts everything into perspective. Everyone at Tottenham wishes Eriksen the best, hoping for a speedy recovery. As the story develops, we’ll keep you updated.

The stadium in Copenhagen is about 500 metres from the most renowned hospital in Copenhagen, where he will receive the best possible care. We’re pulling for you, Christian.

The match is suspended until further notice. At the moment, though, that is of little concern.

Eriksen conscious and responsive

The update is extremely encouraging, as Eriksen has been stabilized and is conscious and responsive. While it’s still too early to report the state of his current situation, this news is promising.

Images showed Eriksen, as he was being stretchered off, conscious. The news at this early stage will fill everyone with relief, although everyone waits with bated breath to hear more updates. He is awake at the hospital and awaiting further examination, the Denmark FA reports.

Tottenham have expressed their well wishes for Erksen, while the Danish FA tweeted, as seen below in Danish, that Eriksen, already is awake and awaiting further examination.
