The Athletic has just broke a story saying that the north London club are in advanced discussions with Antonio Conte about becoming Tottenham’s next manager.

The pendulum once again swings back to Conte in Spurs’ hunt for a new gaffer. Based on the Athletic’s report, he is now Tottenham’s lead candidate for the job. The latest breaking news suggest Tottenham also want former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici as part of the package deal.

It’s just the latest development in a series of an extraordinary back and forth between Conte and Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs’ former boss made official recently his desire to leave PSG. But the French club can make it extremely difficult for Pochettino to be able to leave, a move that would cost Tottenham a boatload in compensation.

While Conte’s contract is expected to be in the exorbitant range of £17 million per season, Tottenham don’t have to pay any club, after Conte split from Inter less than two weeks ago, compensation to get their man.

Spurs have been without a permanent manager since sacking Jose Mourinho more than six weeks ago, less than a week prior to the Carabao Cup Final. Conte has massive support from a large portion of Tottenham’s fan base. He is a proven winner and has an uncanny knack for immediately, and significantly, changing things when appointed at a new club.

The bonus of bringing Paratici along for the ride will feverishly excite Tottenham’s faithful, who believe Conte can make extraordinary strides in a comparatively short timespan.

Paratici left Juventus earlier this week after 11 years in the job where he also worked alongside Conte during his spell as Juventus boss between 2011 and 2014.

We’ll have to wait and see how this latest story develops, but if reports by the Athletic are accurate, Tottenham fans might not have to wait much longer before Conte is named as the club’s manager.
