New development would make Harry Kane’s decision more difficult
By Gary Pearson
If Tottenham somehow manage to convince Mauricio Pochettino to take his rightful job back, Harry Kane would be left with an even more difficult decision about his future.
Kane, if we’re honest with ourselves, has already made his decision to leave Tottenham this summer. While we’d like to think otherwise, Kane’s body language and actions in the last few weeks have spoken volumes.
The club legend desires a move away, with Manchester City the likely sweepstakes’ winner. Playing at a dominant Manchester City with Pep Guardiola is a prospect too appealing to turn down.
But what if a gigantic spanner is thrown in the works. What if Pochettino returns to Tottenham?
Kane and Pochettino have a special relationship, a steadfast bond that saw the pair come within one win of reaching the pinnacle of European football. Pochettino was the man at the helm when Kane scored his first Premier League goal against Sunderland more than seven years ago.
At the time there were reports that Pochettino’s job security was at best precarious. Even Pochettino asserts to this day that Kane “saved his job” at Tottenham. They have an incorruptible level of respect for one another, only made more ironclad by their shared journey in north London.
First of all, Pochettino’s return to Tottenham is unlikely. So let’s get that caveat out of of the way. However, would Kane’s decision change if Pochettino returns?
It would definitely make Kane rethink the most important decision of his career. Though if his heart is truly set on a move to City, not even Pochettino’s return would convince him to stay.
Unless Tottenham commits hundreds of millions to securing four, potentially five, players they need to challenge City atop the Premier League, even the Messiah himself won’t be able to stop Kane from chasing the glory he so craves.
