Spurs player ratings from Tottenham 2-4 win at Leicester City

Tottenham defensive ratings
There were a few changes in the back from the four Mason has been selecting, however, this bunch really faired no better than the previous group. Fortunately, the Tottenham offense bailed out the defense – for not the first time – and Spurs were able to hang on and win.
Sergio Reguilón – 6.5
Sergio Reguilón is such a willing runner with the ball it is awesome, however, sometimes he is too willing. The Spaniard seems to have a bit of the Dele Alli in him where he goes down a bit too easily and is flustered looking for a call. While he is young and can mature, he is a perfect example of a player who needs the right coach to excel.
Toby Alderweireld – 7
The big Belgian center-back had a decent day except for that one play. At first, it seemed Toby Alderweireld had gotten away with a small clip-on Jamie Vardy as he stepped behind with his front foot to try and block the Leicester attacker in the box. Initially, Anthony Taylor waved the play on, and off we went. However, Peter Banks in the VAR booth felt a bit differently, called Taylor over and the referee quickly awarded the penalty. Outside of that mistake, Alderweireld was really strong with several solid tackles both in tight spaces and in the open field.
Davinson Sanchez – 6.5
Overall the afternoon for the Colombian center-half was not that different than the one his teammate Toby Alderweireld had. Davinson Sanchez was on the run all afternoon working hard to keep up with Jamie Vardy and Keleche Iheanacho. Sanchez was doing great, including a wonderful sliding challenge in the box in the first half. Then all of a sudden Sanchez was not doing so good. It was a diagonal ball and as Vardy ran into the box chasing he hooked Sanchez’s arm and pulled himself to the ground. Taylor pointed to the spot and awarded another penalty. Leicester’s 10th on the season, tying Manchester United for the most all-time in a single Premier League season. There was no VAR this time from Peter Banks, which should have rightfully given Vardy a yellow but such is life in the Premier League where VAR gives and takes.
Matt Doherty – 7.5
Matt Doherty seemed to be the player of earlier in the season on the day as he managed to really provide a consistent outlet on the right. Very willing to run forward and put the ball into dangerous places, Doherty seemed a bit more like the player Spurs thought they purchased last summer. Does not make up for what was a disappointing first season overall but a step.
