As Sky Sports “broke the news” without even trying to quote an actual source that Harry Kane has “again told Tottenham he wants to leave this summer” their intent was quite clear, make the transfer happen. The best way to make the transfer happen is to drop this story the week before the final two games in an attempt to unsettle Tottenham and keep Spurs out of the Europa League.

Why Sky Sports want the transfer

As a fan from the states, it basically looks like if Sky Sports does not have something negative to say about Tottenham, they have nothing to say at all. The network’s clear preference for the Manchester clubs is quite obvious in almost everything that comes from the group. Therefore, when major “breaking news” on Tottenham, let alone Harry Kane comes out, we should take it with a grain of salt.

That said, this announcement was different than naming the losing defender player of the game or asking Kane to ‘explain’ his actions when he undercut another player. While those were just signs of dislike for Tottenham Hotspur, making this announcement, supported only by their “understanding” that last season it was bringing in Mourinho that kept Kane at Spurs was different.

Sky Sports trying to unsettle Tottenham impact table

There really is one scenario where Tottenham may have no choice but to give in to the huge money that would come for selling Harry Kane, which is if Tottenham were to miss ALL of Europe.

As things stand right now, Tottenham has the inside track at the Premier League’s second spot in the Europa League group stage. Of course, that hold is very tenuous as it is only based on goal difference over West Ham. That said, the Spurs have a +12 goal advantage on West Ham, so if both teams win out, Tottenham is in.

Further, Tottenham is suddenly playing some relatively bright football, and more importantly, we are seeing smiles on the player’s faces again. With things looking up for Spurs, something has to give if Kane is going to leave.

The most likely way to get Tottenham out of European competition is to unsettle the squad. The best way to unsettle the squad is to make this giant proclamation that Harry Kane has demanded a transfer.

True or not, this is a pain for Kane, Tottenham

True or not, Kane was trending on Twitter and every outlet, everywhere in the world ran with the Sky Sports story, thus it must be true. Or not.

True or not, I would wager a very large sum that Harry Kane and his agent brother had to answer a LOT of texts, calls, and emails.

True or not, all of Harry Kane’s teammates likewise had to answer a LOT of texts, calls, and emails.

In a shortened week where a team has limited time to prepare, what better way to disrupt that preparation than drop this “bombshell”.

Now does Sky Sports really want to see Tottenham fail and see Harry Kane transfer to one of their favored clubs in a summer where they do NOT have the broadcast rights to EURO 2020? Of course not, unless they do.

As for me, I will believe the club’s mouthpiece Alasdair Gold.

Now when Ali tells me that Kane has informed the club of his desire to leave, that will be breaking news I will believe. Until then, let’s just hope Kane and everyone else in that clubhouse had their ringers off and could ignore the noise.

With just two more wins a season that looked lost could end in a better position than the last and that is breaking news I want to hear. Just do not expect to hear it on Sky Sports.

Next. Tottenham should be eyeing raid on Lille. dark
