Before we begin, yes Harry Kane just deservedly won the London Football Award as Premier League Player of the Year. And yes, Harry Kane is the best player on Tottenham currently and maybe ever at the club. And writing this is almost akin to blasphemy but there are some things about Kane that are hurting the team.

Harry Kane has been Awesome for Tottenham

Harry Kane truly has taken his game up a notch from a statistical perspective. His work playing in a deeper role this season, while still finding ways to score with limited service rightfully has made him player of the year by at least one organization.

However, while Kane has the opportunity to lead the Premier League in both goals and assists this season, it has not translated to team success. When Thierry Henry scored 30 in 2004-05 and added 14 assists – second only to Frank Lampard – we know Arsenal had their ‘invincible’ season.

Alternatively, Tottenham has lost 10 times this season and drawn a further 8. At this point in the season, the Spurs have actually won fewer games than they have drawn or lost. All this is to say that while Kane has produced some outstanding statistics, leading the league with 21 goals and 13 assists, it has not equated to team success.

This is not to say it is Harry Kane’s fault Tottenham is not succeeding, clearly without his 34 goal contributions in 33 games, who knows where Tottenham would be. That said, there are some things about Kane that are hurting the team and need to be addressed moving forward.
