Tottenham player ratings from another rank performance from Spurs

Tottenham Midfield Ratings
Tottenham had a decent run from the midfield in the first half, as Giovani Lo Celso did well to help pressure from the front. That ability to be on the ball and in United’s shirt kept Spurs on the front foot for most of that first half. However, in the second half, Lo Celso simply did not have the same effort and the player behind him are not good enough to pick up the slack. Lo Celso was eventually replaced but it was too little too late from an engine room in need of an overhaul.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 4
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg like everyone was adequate in the first half but simply was not enough in the second half to help carry Tottenham to victory. Made several tackles, but four of the five came AFTER United had evened the score. Simply lacks the range athletically and as a passer to be the base of the defense we want him to be. Once paired next to Sissoko, there was no one left to play a ball forward with quality.
Tanguy Ndombele – 4
Tanguy Ndombele had a few flashes in the first half where he was able to get on the ball and turn the United defenders. However, more often than not the turn kept going and he ultimately laid the ball off or went backward. The few real forward passes he made just were not there as Tottenham seriously lacks a deep-lying playmaker. Maybe should have come off with Lo Celso as he did nothing in the time he was left on in the number 10 role.
Giovani Lo Celso – 4
Maybe Lo Celso should just always come off the bench because it is clear you are not going to get 90 minutes from him and the team is better when he is on the pitch and fresh. Lo Celso was aggressive defensively in the first half and that helped force the pace. Was non-existent in the second half and taken off. Ultimately half a rating for half a game.
