Tottenham, thanks to Hugo Lloris‘ heroics and VAR, held on to a 1-0 lead to win consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since November.

Sometimes you have to win ugly, which is exactly what Tottenham achieved in West London this evening. A strong first half was offset by an unconvincing, cagey second stanza. But the win is all that matters, especially as Fulham hadn’t lost for a month prior to this evening’s contest.

First Half

Tottenham showed sustained periods of free-flowing football in the first half. High expectations came with Tottenham’s superstar quartet starting together for the first time. And for the most part, they didn’t disappoint. Fulham aren’t an easy team to break down, allowing just one goal in their last five matches, so it would have been unrealistic to expect the away side to score at will.

Nonetheless, there were bundles of promising signs. To nobody’s surprise, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combined well, while Dele Alli joined the party, the Englishman benefitting from Son’s brilliant distribution. Dele was unlucky, thanks to a final touch Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, not to score his first Premier League goal since October 2019. While Spurs’ opener went down as an own goal, Dele will take great joy in creating it. The celebration was evidence of that.

Gareth Bale was slightly off the mark, his touch letting him down a couple of times. But it was his initial pass that sprung Dele into action for Tottenham’s opener. Fulham did their utmost to quell Spurs’ formidable attacking quartet, and will be satisfied with their overall effort in the first half.

Kane missed a sitter from close range in a rare moment of wastefulness. Otherwise Fulham kept Spurs attack in check, an impressive feat considering how well the quartet combined.
