Substitutes and Coach Ratings

There were several substitutes in the game for Tottenham, but only one, Harry Kane really had a positive impact. In fact two of the others, Dele Alli and Harry Winks likely had more of a negative impact on the match than anything as the play went down as those players were introduced and their mistakes were magnified by the late stages of the match.

Harry Kane – 7

Harry Kane came on and tried his harded. Somehow credited with 10 shots, not sure he had 10 although he went for it in his hour, Kane played hard. Had he not slipped may have scored a second in extra time before Bernard, but lost his footing and Spurs lost the match. Has to be getting frustrated.

Dele Alli – 5

Dele Alli came on the pitch and outside of a yellow card for simlulation – which was questionable – there likely is no record he was on the field. Dele only had 21 touches despite playing nearly 45 minutes of football with the extra time added in. Just kind of aimlessly went around the middle of the pitch. Tried to make some runs in the box, but with Kane, Son, and Vinicius on the field, needed someone to make plays from deeper, which is not his game. Just does not seem interested and does not seem to fit at the moment.

Harry Winks – 4

Despite the hollers from Hugo Lloris, anyone that knows anything about football would be hard pressed to say Harry Winks was not the worst player to take the pitch. With Dele, it is desire and attitude, with Winks it is down to confidence and ability. His giveaway in the middle of the park by simply not hold a 5 yard pass well led almost directly to the game winner. The team was much worse with him on the field as he does not do enough offensively or defensively to warrant a selection at this business end of the season.

Moussa Sissoko – N/A

Came on for the last 20 minutes or so of injury time and ran about. Did not really produce anything on either end although he got a lot of touches on the ball, which at 31 was 10 more than Dele in less than half the time. If some of the players with the better ability would play with Sissoko’s effort and desire it would be different.

Carlos Vinicius – N/A

Came on late with Sissoko but really had no impact on the outcome. Only had seven touches but was five for five passing. Committed essentially the last foul of the game.

José Mourinho – 5

On the one hand you have to appreciate that the team attacked and played with some real desire offensively. On the other hand, if Tottenham are going to be this bad defensively, who wants to see the same crappy no account players do it. Clearly Matt Doherty and Ben Davies are not good enough for the top end of the Premier League and neither is Winks. The leash needs to be tightened and Spurs need to buckle down because either top four or winning Europa League are the ONLY two acceptable outcomes from the season and neither seem likely at this point.
