Tottenham Hotspur and Everton played a classic FA Cup match on Thursday Wednesday evening as both teams left it all on the pitch in a 5-4 thriller. In a match that Tottenham were seemingly in control of, except when they were not, Spurs have to feel like they missed an opportunity. In the end Everton made more plays or more appropriately fewer mistakes and advance in the Cup competition and Spurs are left to continue to wait to break the FA Cup drought. So how did the lads play on a night that saw 120 minutes of action.

Erik Lamela, a Difference Maker for Tottenham

Erik Lamela is one of those players fans either love or hate, as his inconsistent ability to remain on the pitch can be extremely frustrating. However, on a night like Wednesday where Lamela was one of if not the best player on the pitch, you can see what he brings to the team. Never really out of control on the evening, Erik consistently picked up the ball and was able to turn and attack Everton.

Lamela was so attack minded he had five shots and four were on target. His goal just before the half definitely brought life back into a side that had its confidence shattered. As significant as his contributions on the offensive end, which were plenty on the night, Lamela also does hard work defensively. Probably the most box-to-box midfielder Tottenham has, Lamela was as likely to be stepping in to get the ball defensively in his own penalty area as he was in Everton’s.

The Argentine brings a lot to the team and it was obvious when he was off as the work rate when down considerably. With performances like Wednesday evening from Lamela, we have to hope he stays healthy, because he showed he is still very much a play makers.
