Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings in Much Needed Win over West Brom
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham Hotspur got a much needed three points and got some good games from some big players, including one that no one had really expected. Hugo Lloris made his save, Pierre Hujbjerg protected the defense and make a big pass. Heung-Min Son got back on the scoresheet. However, the player of the match was surprise starter returning from injury Harry Kane.
Harry Kane Made His Presence Felt
It was not the most dominating performance we have seen from Harry Kane this season – Southampton is going to be difficult to top – but Harry Kane was clearly the difference in this match. Harry Kane was back to setting up attack by dropping deep, yet for those skeptics still managed to get off a game high five shots.
As a natural goal scorer – and part-time poacher – Harry Kane does not have to stand next to the center half the entire match to pop up in scoring positions. Despite not finishing in the first half, Kane probably should have had two goals as he once hit one off the crossbar and then had another saved at the far post.
Both plays showed just that hint of his layoff which probably led to the misses on opportunities Kane normally buries, but he got things together in time to make things right for Spurs.
The pass from Højbjerg was perfect, the first touch was sublime and then the finish was calm as a cucumber. If you draw up a sweet unlocking of a defense it was this little move and Kane made this look count and that was all Tottenham really was looking for.
Not finished, Kane did have the hockey assist as his dropping deep and winning of a 50/50 ball in the air – using his chest to redirect the ball into the path of Lucas Moura. Moura did the trick from there on the dribble with Son finishing, but it was Kane that set the Brazilian free. That Kane was out for a week with two ankle injuries one would hardly know and do not tell West Brom as they probably would not believe you.
