The early return of Harry Kane sparked Tottenham to life, with the home side showing energy and desire in their 2-0 win over West Brom.

Kane and Son Heung-Min scored within four minutes of each other early in the second half to put the match beyond doubt. Jose Mourinho’s men deserve credit for the way they rebounded from the lacklustre defeat to Chelsea on Thursday.

Playing on the front foot for much of the first half, Kane contributed with his usual commitment, causing the Baggies all sorts of defensive trouble. He did everything but score in the first 45, missing two excellent chances while looking dangerous every time he received the ball.

Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura also impressed, with the former carrying on from where he left off against the Blues. Lamela was spry, alert and one of Spurs’ most influential players. He added life and zest to a side in need of both.

Kane and Son, to nobody’s surprise, were the home side’s standout performers, both of whom got back to scoring ways. Son scored his first goal in over a month, while Kane added his first since the 3-1 win over Sheffield United in mid-January.

Kane didn’t show any fitness concerns in the win. It did take him a few chances in front of goal to recover his scoring touch, but having him back was a godsend for Spurs, who are an entirely different side with him in the lineup.

Moura and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg assisted on the goals, helping Tottenham leapfrog Aston Villa and Chelsea in the standings. Spurs are now in seventh, level on points with Chelsea and four points behind Liverpool, who currently sit in the final Champions League position.

Next. Tottenham should play Hojberg as lone defensive mid. dark

The gaffer will be happy with a result that, but for a few nervy moments, was quite comfortable throughout. Hopefully Spurs can use this result as a springboard to gain confidence and go on a winning run.
