Tottenham Midfield

Spurs midfield was a mess all day. The days of the defensive midfielders covering for the fullbacks have got to end as it leaves Spurs exposed like man-making for Leeds. With Højbjerg and Sissoko getting the most touches besides a couple defenders, we know it was not a good day for Spurs.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 3

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg looked more like part of the problem than the solution today for Tottenham Hotspur. Doing his best Harry Winks going sideways impersonation. Højbjerg is simply not good enough or creative enough to be on the ball as much as he is for Tottenham and we saw it today as he played spoke in a wheel that went in circles, but never moved. No longer enough doing the things he was signed to do with no tackles and only one interception.

Moussa Sissoko – 3.5

Moussa Sissoko was not good on the day, but he seemed run a bit harder on both ends of the pitch than did his running mate Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. Sissoko managed a team high four interceptions and had one key pass but should  – like Aurier – be helping not trying to carry the team.

Tanguy Ndombele – 5

Tanguy Ndombele had an okay near 70 minutes and then came out. Instead of having more options with more space in the absence of Harry Kane, all there really was for Ndombele was more people on him. Always smothered every time he touched the ball. Was fouled twice on one play but play carried on and 10 second later Toby was being booked. Looked like it was just a frustrating day for Tanguy as the space and separate between the two holding midfielders and Tanguy trying to support the attack was far too much.
