Tottenham Starting Midfield

Two-thirds of the Tottenham midfield is a known commodity, assuming they are going to play with two holding midfieldres and an attacking midfielder. If Spurs were to go with only two in the central midfield it would be Pierre Højbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele. While last time the two teams met it was Højbjerg  and Lo Celso. We know the Argentine is out for this match-up and Ndombele has been playing great. The question as always of late is who is the third.

Tanguy Ndombele (CAM)

Tanguy Ndombele has shown that he can be effective in the farthest reaches of the attack with several goals of late. And the last time we saw him in the Premier League he was bossing Sheffield around the field with Højbjerg in a two man midfield. On Thursday, Ndombele is looking to pressure Liverpool and push forward in attack. The more the Frenchman can be on the ball the better for Tottenham as his work has been excellent of late.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg  (DM)

Of course one of the two holding midfielders for Tottenham is going to be Pierre Højbjerg. It is no coincidence that Wycombe did not have a shot after Højbjerg came on the pitch Monday. The Dane is at his most effective for Tottenham when he is looking to wreak havoc in the middle to attacking third of the pitch. Højbjerg moved the ball quicker against Wycombe and that needs to continue against Liverpool.

Harry Winks (DM)

Speaking of moving the ball quickly, following a terrific performance against Wycombe Harry Winks gets a shot at the big boys. Starting Winks over Sissoko gives Spurs more of an attacking feel and still leaves Mourinho with the option of bringing on the Frenchman to help closeout the match. Winks has been playing well, but needs to demonstrate he can do it in the biggest matches and this is one of them.
