Tottenham travel to Championship side Wycombe tomorrow in the FA Cup. Here’s what to expect from the intriguing fourth round tie.

Wycombe are currently anchored to the bottom of the Championship table, gaining just 15 points from 23 matches. They are four points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday and 10 points from safety. Their spot in League One for next season is almost assured after a terrible beginning to the 2020-21 campaign.

It makes this FA Cup fourth round match against Tottenham all the more meaningful. The home match vs. Spurs represents a glorious opportunity to play the role of giant beaters. But Spurs, under Jose Mourinho’s guidance and wily experience, won’t take the struggling side lightly.

Tottenham made a good account of themselves against eighth division Marine in the previous round. This match against Wycombe provides the same type of challenges for Spurs. All expectations and pressure is placed squarely on Tottenham’s shoulders. But they have more than enough experience, composure and motivation to comfortably come through this test.

If things go as predicted, Spurs should advance to the fifth round where they will meet either Everton or Sheffield Wednesday. Expect Tottenham to win 2-0 or 3-0.

Here’s some interesting stats going into the anticipated fixture:

  • Spurs beat Wycombe 4-3 in the same round in 2017-16, the only other time these two clubs have met in competitive action
  • Tottenham have advanced in 20 of 21 FA Cup matches against sides in lower divisions. Their only defeat came against Leeds in the fourth round in 2012-2013
  • Wycombe have won only one of their eight FA Cup matches against Premier League sides. That win came against Leicester in 2000-01 when the Wanderers advanced to the semi-final of the competition

  • Wycombe are on a mini run at home, unbeaten in three of last four matches at Adams Park Stadium
  • A few Wycombe players have recently tested positive for COVID, but the match will proceed. Wycombe haven’t played since Jan. 9 because of the recent mini-outbreak.
