Balanced Effort Shown in Tottenham Player Ratings vs Bees
By Aaron Coe
Tottenham Hotspur got one goal from an unexpected source and another from an expected source as the team played well overall in advancing to the Carabao Cup Final.
Tottenham Hotspur brought the effort and intensity and were able to dominate Brentford in a game that was never in doubt for Spurs. Brentford did momentarily tie the match before VAR intervened, but outside that opportunity and the odd occasion here and there, Tottenham held the Bees in check. So, who were the standout performers on a day when everyone played well?
Tottenham’s Best: Tanguy Ndombele
A year ago, there were many fans grumbling about the role and contribution of Tanguy Ndombele with the Tottenham team. At this point everyone should see the contribution coming from the Frenchman. Ndombele will likely never have the most touches for Spurs or the highest passing percentage, but he often makes the most meaningful passes and has some of the most significant touches.
Outside of a beautiful cross from Sergio Reguilón to assist on the opener, there was no more important pass on the night than Ndombele’s pass to Heung-Min Son. Tanguy was able to thread the ball between defenders to a flashing Son in the second half for Spurs second, which put the game away. That was Spurs only connection on a through ball the on the night and made a world of difference.
Outside of assist, Ndombele was a major factor in the Tottenham press and has really found a rhythm working with Harry Kane on when to push up as Kane drops deep and vice versa. Ndombele was constantly lurking around the Brentford defensive midfielders waiting to pounce. Going for a full 90 in the most important game of the season thus far shows his importance to the team and his performance showed that it can lead to results.
Of course, Tanguy was not the only standout on the evening, as a few players worked to make a statement.
