Tottenham Starting Midfield

Tottenham are quite likely to stick with their current system for Wolves and will use Pierre Højbjerg to help cover a highly active Wolves attack. The question is if any of Harry Winks, Dele Alli, or Erik Lamela made enough of an impression on Wednesday to join him. Likely Mourinho sticks with Sissoko next to Pierre, although we think he looked good off the bench. Then the question becomes who sits in the #10 hole to support the attack.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (DM)

Pierre Højbjerg has not quite been as great as he was at the start of the season over the last month or so. His passing has dropped a bit and he has not been as impenetrable in front of the defense. In other words, Højbjerg is human and simply could not maintain the pace he set early this season. That said, the man is still all over the field and works hard to get in position to get the football as much as he can. It is just best for Tottenham when this happens from a ball recovery, rather than building from deep.

Moussa Sissoko (DM)

As much as we would love to see and believe Harry Winks deserves a chance next to Højbjerg, it is more likely to happen in the next match than against Wolves. Given the potency of Wolves attack, even without the injured Raul Jimenez, Mourinho is likely to stick with what he believes will give him the most defensive protection. While some believe a good offense is the best defense, José believes a good defense is the best defense and sticks with Sissoko for now.

Tanguy Ndombele (CAM)

Tanguy Ndombele had about 15 good minutes against Leicester City. They happened to be the same good 15 minutes Spurs had in the first half of the match. Unfortunately, after an injury time goal and a desire to push with Lo Celso, the work was not enough and Ndombele was removed. This proved a major mistake as after Lo Celso went down, there was no cover. This is not a problem this week as Ndombele is back to his best, knowing cover is there in both Erik Lamela and Dele Alli.
