Tottenham Defense Ratings

Ben Davies – 7.5

Ben Davies had a memorable night as he struck the goal that turned out to be the game winner. Davies was the fullback more likely to be playing defense on the night, until he was not on the goal. Davies went for the ball and when that did not happen more people went out of position. Outside of the goal, was never really troubled defensively and helped form at back three often when in possession.

Eric Dier – 7

Eric Dier was better on Wednesday than he had been the previous two matches. Of course, Wednesday Tottenham were not facing Jamie Vardy or Mo Salah. Was out of position on the goal and still tried to force a few passes. However, Dier was all business on the evening and was clearly working to lead the defense, particularly after the goal. Strong in the air, Dier needed that match.

Davinson Sanchez – 8

Davinson Sanchez played very well on the evening and that is good for Tottenham. While Sanchez was unable to get over and prevent the goal, he did everything else right on the night. Sanchez was excellent in the air and was the most aggressive of the fullbacks in stepping to win the ball. Intelligent with his passing, Sanchez did not take unnecessary risks and played a full 90 minutes. Exactly the kind of game the Columbian needed.

Matt Doherty – 7

Matt Doherty got up and down the right flank on the evening and saw a lot of the ball. Some of that was because Spurs liked attacking up the right, particularly after Moussa Sissoko came on. Some of the touches were because Stoke liked attacking up the left when Doherty was way up the pitch. Sometimes Matt looks very assured in possession, at other times, he looks like a kid playing hot potato with the ball. Despite spending more time across midfield than behind it, had little impact on the offense.

Hugo Lloris – 6.5

Hugo Lloris really did not have to do much on the evening. Stoke did not register a shot in the first half and Lloris only touched the ball 25 total the entire game. Maybe should have tried to cut the cross that became the goal, particularly after what happened when he did not on the weekend. Hate seeing your keeper beaten near post. Save the only other two shots he faced.
