Bench Rating

José Mourinho had lost his bench before the match began, but then got next near nothing from it once he did pull the trigger. Lucas Moura looked out of position, Gareth Bale looked out of gas, and Harry Winks looked out of a job as the bench flopped for Tottenham.

Lucas Moura – 6

Lucas Moura came on for Giovani Lo Celso again and run around the way Moura does. Moura was a ton more active than either Lo Celso or Ndombele had been, but completing only 71% of his passes, maybe that activity was not the best move. In a game looking for a passer, Moura was not the answer.

Gareth Bale –5

Prior to Sunday, we have just looked the other way as Bale has put in poor performance after poor performance. However, after the match Sunday, it really does look like Bale has nothing left. Bale’s free kick was not even close, and he was the worst passer on the pitch for either team, completing only 55% of his 18 passes. Worse, the big touch and burst move that made so many defenders look bad just made Gareth look silly on the day as he lost the ball repeatedly. Maybe Bale was still recovering from being ill, in which case he should have not been in the squad. If not, then maybe he should just not be in the squad because he is not adding much to it at the moment.

Harry Winks – 5

Honestly, we at HotspurHQ are even more disappointed in Harry Winks than any other member of the Tottenham Hotspur organization. Winks had a chance to do something today and decided to just walk about. While Winks did not get a ton of minutes, not running with attackers that were on the field, not tracking back defensively, and getting yet another stupid, unnecessary yellow card are all examples of reasons Winks has not been playing. Simply not good enough to do what Mourinho wants, if the effort is not going to be there, Winks can leave in January.
