Tottenham: What I Want to See the Next Time I See Dele Alli Play

Dele Alli will eventually get another chance to play under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, here is what Dele needs to do when that chance does come for Spurs.

Dele Alli has played sparingly this season but he was reportedly the 19th man last Saturday for Manchester City, which means he is close to getting back in the rotation. Whether his next chance is this week against Ludogorets in Europa League or some other time in the future, there are some things Dele needs to do, to earn back the minutes he so desperately covets. If Dele can show Jose Mourinho the things in our 5-point plan, then Dele Alli can still have a role to play this season for Tottenham Hotspur.

Dele Had Some Chances

Dele Alli has not been selected for the squad nine times this season, which is more than he has appearances, six. Even in those six appearances Dele only played 243 minutes in those six matches, with three starts and three substitute appearances. The longest of the six appearances was an hour back in the third round of Europa League Qualifying against Shkendija.  His shortest stint was 21 minutes against Manchester United in the 1-6 thrashing at Old Trafford.

The point is, Dele has had some chances, they have not been great in number, but his performances clearly did not warrant more playing time in Mourinho’s system. The last time we saw Dele, Mourinho made some comments about learning some things about players and we have not seen Alli since. At this point one has to believe the number of chances Dele will receive moving forward are likely few. However, few is better than none. With the idea of at least one more chance in mind, here is 5-point plan for Dele Alli to find success in the Mourinho system.
