Loans are for a player to gain experience and grow, based on what we saw from Juan Foyth in Europa League for Villareal, this is a loan move may work.

Juan Foyth came to Tottenham Hotspur with a lot of promise as a young Argentine center-half, or was it right back, or was it as a midfielder. Part of Foyth’s problem has been the lack of a consistent position for Spurs, now with more numbers in the squad a loan was the only real choice to get the playing time necessary to stay in the Argentina National Squad conversation and gain the experience needed to compete for a spot at N17.

Foyth went on loan late in the window to Villareal in Spain. After watching the first match of his Villareal career from the bench in La Liga against Valencia, Foyth got to start in Europa League on Thursday. To say that Juan Foyth made the most of his opportunity is probably an understatement. Foyth had a trifecta of sorts for Villareal with a goal, an assist and a yellow card, all in the second half of the 5-3 Villareal victory.

The goal came in the 57th minute as Foyth came running in from the top of the box on a corner and headed home, giving Villareal the lead. At 63 minutes Foyth was unlucky to receive a yellow as we went challenging on a 50/50 ball just outside the top of the box and lost. Unfortunately for Villareal and Foyth, Sivasspor scored on the subsequent free kick.

Foyth’s night was not over yet, as Juan got the ball near midfield and played a lovely ball between four defenders up to Paco Alcacer who proceeded to score his second goal in the space of five minutes. At the point the scoring was over and Villareal would hang on to win the game. Such was Foyth’s evening, he was named to the UEFA Europa League team of the week.

As for Foyth, getting 90 minutes he certainly would not have gotten in the Tottenham match versus LASK, which was as much a positive as the goal and assist. As a Spurs fan, let us hope that this is the first of many solid nights for the Argentine who still is not finished at N17 with Tottenham Hotspur.
