U21 Depth, No Surprises in Tottenham Premier League Squad
By Aaron Coe
Spurs Non-Home-Grown Players
With 9 Home Grown Players, Tottenham could only have 16, not the maximum 17 in the squad. That change in math had an impact, which was the same impact as there was for the Europa League squad, which was Gedson Fernandes being left out of the 25-man team. Fortunately for the Benfica loaner, his age, allowed him to be part of the Under-21 list in the Premier League.
Starting in the back Spurs have Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga who have joined Joe Hart. Toby Alderweireld, Serge Aurier, Eric Dier, Sergio Reguilón, and Davinson Sanchez round out the defensive options in the main 25 player squad.
Steven Bergwijn, Heung-Min Son, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Lucas Moura, and Moussa Sissoko round out the midfield. Then for once Harry Kane is not the only striker, as Carlos Vinicius – on loan from Benfica – made the 25-man list too.
The good news for Tottenham overall, is that having fewer non-Home-Grown Players than the maximum in the squad gives the team additional flexibility in the January transfer window should the need arise. Besides the transfer window, the Under-21 player list might have more options than one would think.
