Matt Doherty becomes Tottenham Hotspur’s third signing of the summer.

It seemed to be just a matter of time before the deal was made official, and now Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of former Wolves fullback Matt Doherty.

According to Alasdair Gold of football.london, the transfer fee was £13.4 million with no add-ons, with Doherty signing a four-year deal with Spurs.

For a player who was so important to Wolves, and who will play a crucial role in Jose Mourinho’s lineup, that’s a quite incredible deal for Tottenham.

An attacking, creative fullback who can help strengthen the ride side of Tottenham’s starting lineup. Not only will he be relied on for his defensive talent, but Doherty will create plenty of chances for Spurs’ attacking players and will also add a few goals himself.

It’s another smart piece of business in what’s quickly becoming a strong transfer window for Tottenham. While they haven’t made any big-money signings, they’ve made three affordable additions to the squad, and all three are players who help make this team better.

Doherty can be a regular starter. The same is true of midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who joined from Southampton earlier this summer and has been impressive in the preseason games.

Joe Hart was signed on a free transfer, and while he might not be the number one choice at goalkeeper, with Spurs potentially playing a lot of matches this season with Europa League games to go with the other cup competitions, adding a talented goalkeeper with Hart’s experience is a good move.

With two weeks to go until the start of the Premier League season, work is still needed. But Tottenham have been smart with their summer additions so far, strengthening the squad without having to spend big transfer fees.

Doherty has now officially signed with Spurs and it will be exciting to see him in the starting lineup regularly this season.
