Tottenham are close to completing the transfer for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Tottenham Hotspur‘s first signing of the summer transfer window is close to being completed.

Jose Mourinho’s team needs help in central midfield, and that help is on the way with Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to BBC Sport, Hojbjerg is having a medical with Spurs on Monday ahead of his transfer. According to the report, right back Kyle Walker-Peters will go in the other direction after spending time on loan with Saints. The fees are undisclosed, but the article notes that “Spurs will pay Southampton at least £3m more for Hojbjerg”.

Hojbjerg will be a welcomed addition to a Tottenham lineup in need of some defensive help. Hojbjerg’s role as a defensive midfielder will help Spurs win back the football and maintain possession.

According to Sky Sports, Hojbjerg ranked first in the Premier League for possessions won last season. He’s exactly the type of player Tottenham need.

Hojbjerg might not be a flashy, attacking player who creates and scores lots of goals, but that’s not what Spurs need him to be. They need a defensive midfielder who can compete with Harry Winks for playing time. Someone who can break down opposing attacks and get the ball back to the feet of Spurs’ playmakers.

To compete in the Premier League, you need players who are strong and can dominate in the middle of the field. Hojbjerg can do that, making him a perfect fit for Mourinho’s team.

Hojbjerg is still only 25 years old and spent time at Bayern Munich before joining Southampton in 2016. The fact he has plenty of Premier League experience will help him adapt quickly to his new team. Getting this transfer done early will also help Hojbjerg be ready for the first game of the new season, which begins on September 12.
