Jose Mourinho has his heart set on solving Tottenham’s issues at right back by signing PSG’s Thomas Meunier, whose contract expires in June.

Meunier joined PSG in 2016 from club Brugge. The 28-year-old loves life in Paris and, if he has his way, will sign an extension with the French outfit. But it looks more probable with each passing day that the out-of-favour right back’s services are no longer required in the French capital.

With time about to run out on Meunier’s contract, PSG Football Director Leonardo Nascimento de Araújo has made no attempt to resign the right back.

Mourinho is a massive proponent of Meunier’s skill set and will do everything in his power to secure his signature. Dortmund, Inter Milan, Napoli, among other elite clubs, are interested in signing him, with each team attempting to sway his decision.

But Spurs are thought to have an advantage in their pursuit of the Belgian. Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen know Meunier well from the international scene and will use their relationship to try and convince him that north London is where he belongs.

Jan and Toby’s influence could tip the scales decisively in Spurs’ favour, which would help the club drastically with their current issue at right back. Serge Aurier has made it clear that he one day wants to return to PSG to finish his career. While Aurier has enjoyed a few memorable moments with Spurs, his inconsistency and oft-erratic defending has made him a liability more often.

Tottenham need a reliable, seasoned professional to take the helm as the club’s first choice right back. And Meunier, by all intents and purposes, fits the bill. Now we just need his Belgium compatriots to compel him to make the right decision.
