Tottenham’s Harry Kane at forefront of PlayersTogether charity initiative
By Gary Pearson
Tottenham’s Harry Kane has been instrumental in helping Premier League players get their initiative off the ground, a charity that will raise funds for the NHS.
It’s been a tough week in the news for Tottenham Hotspur. But you can always count on Kane to reinforce the true nature of Tottenham’s community values.
"Kane and a bevy of top flight footballers have set up an initiative called PlayersTogether, which will “help enhance the wellbeing of NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by Covid-19”."
Representatives have met over the last week or so to iron out the details of the charity initiative. Recently players have been castigated for not doing more to help amidst the growing crisis. But this charity initiative has been in the works for some time, and it will provide the NHS with an injection of funds to help health care workers better combat the malevolent virus.
This initiative will also help participating players circumvent the issues that taking a pay cut would have caused the NHS.
Participating players will work alongside NHS Charities Together, an umbrella organization for NHS charities, to distribute funds quickly and efficiently to areas in most desperate need. Spurs players are showing their collective support for the charity, many of whom are already actively promoting the cause on Twitter.
As the pressure mounted for professional footballers to act, this will turn out to be a watershed moment for players who were unfairly criticized. Kane has once again stepped up to use his considerable influence in the ongoing battle to defeat the pervading contagion.
