Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld reached out to a health care worker in the most touching way, showing her just how much the work she does is appreciated during such trying times.

Tayla walked out of her house ready to go to wage war yet again, fighting the peak of the coronavirus with altruism and courage. Putting herself in harm’s way, like so many health care workers around the world, Tayla was applauded by her entire street as she got set to make her way to work.

Alderweireld caught wind of the video and decided to give the Spurs fan an impromptu call, expressing how much he and everyone else appreciates what Tayla is doing. These kind of heartwarming tales are so refreshing during the dark, uncertain times we’re so involuntarily enmeshed. They provide a gleaming light and showcase the solidarity humanity requires right now.

A consummate professional and upstanding fellow, Toby’s call brightened Tayla’s day, showing the health care hero just how many people are in awe of the daily job she and other front line workers do.

Toby’s call merely reinforced everyone else’s sentiment. It was a nice touch from a man who has been outspoken for all the right reasons during the coronavirus crisis. We need more of these touching stories at such an uncertain time.
