With the crisp, undeniable smell of change in the air, it’s time for Tottenham to say goodbye to team captain and world cup winner Hugo Lloris.

Some might be enraged by the mere thought of vanquishing our club captain, while others will be reticent but willing to listen to reason.

He was one of the world’s best keepers, the Frenchman instrumental in lifting his nation to World Cup glory. But his best years, whether we like to admit it or not, are now behind him. He’s still unquestionably a superb shot stopper. He can thank his seemingly ageless athleticism for that exceptional quality.

But the sands of time are certainly not on his side. Way more disconcerting than Lloris’ age is his penchant for committing grave errors that too often result in him bashfully retrieving the ball from the back of the net.

Reflecting reluctantly on the seemingly innocuous moment Lloris dislocated severely his elbow, it serves a purpose, while painful, to recall the egregious mistake that caused, or at least contributed to, his long-term injury.

Lloris is and always will be an ambassador, a highly lionized, respected member of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. But it’s time to move on from the now mistake-prone keeper.

Spurs, especially considering their propensity to concede chances, need a safe set of hands as their backstop. The need for an unerring keeper has never been more imperative. It wont’ be easy to see a stalwart like Lloris, whose tenure at the club started over eight years ago, depart for pastures anew.

dark. Next. Five players Tottenham should buy for next season

But unpopular, immensely difficult decisions during a quasi-rebuild are often accompanied by necessary collateral damage that would otherwise seem unimaginable.
