Tottenham are in the market for a well-rounded, elegant box-to-box midfielder, and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic perfectly fits the bill.

Domineering physically and in stature, Milinkovic-Savic resembles Nemanja Matić in his prime. He knows how to position his giant frame, making him almost impossible to dispossess. But what’s most impressive about Milinkovic-Savic is elegance and dexterity on the ball.

The Serbian international is exquisite in tight quarters and has the ball on a short leash no matter how quickly he travels. He makes exceptionally difficult through balls look like a rudimentary skill, compelling the opposition to commit with no chance of intercepting.

And his range is absolutely poetic. The 25-year-old can switch the point of attack in a flash, again with unerring accuracy.

Tottenham currently don’t have a box to box midfielder of Milinkovic-Savic’s skill set. He can do it all, but most importantly protects the back four as a number 6 with aplomb.

Spurs have shown interest in the 25-year-old, and rightfully so. But make no mistake, Tottenham are up against it to win the Milinkovic-Savic sweepstakes. Not only will he cost the north Londoners about £70 million, the Serbian international is a hot commodity with no shortage of would-be suitors.

By watching and analyzing his footballing acuity, you can easily see why his market valuation is so high. Still with four or five of his best years to come, Milinkovic-Savic is the type of player an élite team would comfortably building their team around.

dark. Next. Five silver linings if Harry Kane decides to leave

He still has three seasons left on a contract that expires in 2024, providing yet another impediment to his potential transfer. But he’s worth the pursuit, as the team that secures his services will immediately see their results dramatically improve.
