Tottenham team update and starting 11 at Burnley
By Gary Pearson
Tottenham haven’t won since Son Heung-Min fractured his arm, an unenviable statistic Jose Mourinho’s side will try end when they play Burnley this evening.
Four losses on the bounce has Tottenham reeling on all fronts, with yet another must win staring them in the face. Hopes of securing a top four spot went out the window in the loss to Wolves, leading one to believe Mourinho will focus his attention to Wednesday’s Champions League second leg at RB Leipzig.
Starting 11
Dele Alli will be happy to see the back of this season after a miserable run. He enjoyed a wonderful patch when Mourinho was freshly appointed, but, like his team, has since faded into the background. Mourinho prefers Alli as the lone front man. Personally I feel Steven Bergwijn is better suited to play up front alone.
Erik Lamela has recovered fully to earn the start. Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks are strategically rested for tonight’s match, allowing the pair to rejuvenate in anticipation of the return leg in Germany midweek.
Tanguy Ndombele, another player plagued with inconsistency, gets a chance to redeem himself in his favoured position. Oliver Skipp, who will be responsible for protecting the back four, could get his second straight start.
Eric Dier retains his position at the heart of defence, with Mourinho vouching for his mental state after his contentious, yet understandable, decision to confront a cantankerous supporter in the aftermath of the FA Cup defeat to Norwich.
Toby, who should be refreshed and raring to go, comes back into the team after a two match break. He will need to be on top form this week with two massive tilts in the offing. What would your starting 11 be against Burnley this evening?
