Lamela and Lo Celso silver linings for Tottenham: Player ratings vs Leipzig
By Gary Pearson
Undone by a Timo Werner penalty, Tottenham had difficulties coming to terms with the tempo for large portions of the first leg.
The home side pushed the tempo with about 20 minutes to play, but it was a case of too little too late. Dangerous every time they were in possession, the German side played with incredible fluidity.
Nervy Tottenham moments headlined the first half, with Leipzig showing why they are only a point adrift of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga standings.
There were a few strong performances Tottenham can take into away leg, but it’s hard to make a case of Jose Mourinho’s side, based on this evening’s performance, going to Germany and coming out with an aggregate win. Anything is possible, though. At least Spurs have given themselves a chance to overturn the first leg deficit.
