Eric Dier, whose future at Tottenham is at best uncertain, is wanted by Manchester United, bringing to light a possible swap deal between clubs.

If Dier doesn’t get more playing time, a highly unlikely outcome based on a rash of poor performances, his departure from north London is probable. And United have been waiting patiently in the wings for years to poach the Englishman. United’s desire to sign Dier may be waning, though, after watching the 26 year old’s recent demise.

But there’s still a solid chance United believe in Dier’s ability to pull himself out of this extended malaise with which he’s embedded.

Spurs will be best served, if they are to sell an asset to a Premier League rival, to get something valuable in return. Jose Mourinho and company are intently interested in Dean Henderson‘s progress.

The 22-year-old keeper, who is on loan Sheffield United, is enjoying a breakthrough season in the top flight. Sheffield United, along with Wolves, are this season’s surprise acts. The Blades are fighting for a coveted Champions League spot thanks in large part to Henderson’s heroics.

The important question is whether Manchester United will be willing to part ways with a blossoming keeper enjoying an impressive upswing. Logic tends to lead one to think they won’t be amenable to losing the 22-year-old keeper to a direct rival, especially to one of the sides between them and a Champions League berth.

Next. Some good news, some bad for Tottenham's first leg versus RB Leipzig. dark

Unfortunately for Spurs it’s more than likely they’ll lose Dier to United for a wad of cash and nothing else. Though never count out Daniel Levy, one of the Premier League’s shrewdest negotiators.
