Tottenham advance to the FA Cup quarterfinal after Son Heung-Min clinically bagged the winner from the spot with three minutes to spare.

The 3-2 win wasn’t Tottenham’s most aesthetically pleasing of the season, but winning at this stage of the competition is the only thing that matters.

Outplayed by a lively Southampton side for large portions of their fourth round FA Cup replay, Tottenham showed fantastic spirit and resilience to comeback and eliminate the Saints.

The home side were undone by a mazy Nathan Redmond run in the latter stages of the second half. Danny Ings was the eventual benefactor of Redmond’s impressive run, and the Englishman made no mistake, dispatching by a helpless Hugo Lloris to put the away side up by one.

Just when you thought Spurs might capitulate and go out of the FA Cup, Dele Alli made his impression felt with a lovely ball to Lucas Moura, whose nifty move rendered useless the static Southampton defence. His wonderful right footed shot found the bottom corner to level proceedings at two.

Spurs enjoyed their best spell of the match in the immediate aftermath of Moura’s equalizer. Dele and Gedson Fernandes brought a vital spark to the home side after being introduced. Fernandes played to Dele who provided beautifully for Son. The South Korean wast quicker to the ball then Angus Gunn, who could only bring the fleet footed Son to the ground. A stone cold penalty was finished confidently by Spurs’ favourite Son.

While it wasn’t a vintage performance by Spurs, all that matters in the end is the result, especially after a dogged resistance from the Saints. Tottenham can now look forward to a fifth round home match against Norwich.
