Finally some closure for Tottenham supporters where Eriksen is concerned
By Gary Pearson
It looks finally like Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is off to pastures anew, though his final destination is still slightly uncertain.
He’s scheduled for a medical at Inter Milan on Monday, which usually is the final step before the transfer is confirmed once and for all.
Inter are the unquestionable frontrunners, and were expected to be shoo-ins before Barcelona, with all their hubris and clout, came swooping in with a final kick at the can. It’s unknown yet whether the Spanish juggernauts will do what Tottenham did to West Ham in landing Gedson Fernandes, but for Spurs fans that’s rather inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
The important thing is getting this deal done. It matters little whether he goes to Inter or Barcelona. Though we all know where he’d prefer to land. Barcelona might pip Inter at the finish line, and we might have to wait all weekend to find out.
But, based on verifiable reports from numerous sources, Eriksen is as good as gone. And it looks like Daniel Levy will get his £17 million asking price too. The most talked about, written about saga, other than the recent transition of managers, is finally about to come to a close.
Everyone associated with Spurs will rejoice, ready and willing to turn the page to a new chapter in Tottenham folklore. The club purchased Eriksen in 2012 for £11 million, so turning a profit for the out-of-sorts Tottenham reject will delight the top brass.
I think we can all admit how sad it was to see this situation spiral out of control. The once beloved, adored, venerated midfielder turned quickly to Enemy Number 1 at Hotspur Way. There are regrets from both sides, but I’m sure we can all agree one two things: this move is best in all ways for the club and, no matter the resentment we currently feel, most Tottenham Hotspur supporters wish Eriksen well on his new chosen path.
This, of course, is predicated on hearing final confirmation of his imminent departure, which we await with bated breath.
