Tottenham team update and starting 11 for trip to Watford
By Gary Pearson
Option 1 – Starting 11 with a 4-3-2-1
It will be interesting to see whether Jose Mourinho employs three at the back or his more conventional 4-3-2-1. The last time he employed three at the back in an away Premier League match, against Norwich, things didn’t go according to plan. Then again, nor did four at the back at Southampton, a match Spurs in which beaten 1-0.
The other massive questions are whether Mourinho is going to start new signing Gedson Fernandes, who arrived from Benfica a few days ago.
The 21-year-old is fit but lacks match sharpness. It would be a risk to start the new arrival, so expect him to start on the bench. However, Mourinho is known to make some surprising decisions, so his inclusion isn’t out of the question.
And then there’s Japhet Tanganga, whose first week at the senior level has delighted supporters everywhere. Though I’d love to see Tanganga get another start, I feel like three in a week, especially for a 20-year-old making his first foray into the senior side, is overkill. But he is young, energetic and tireless, so you never know.
This lineup is a pretty standard setup, with Lamela starting on the left. Surely both Argentinians will get their day in the limelight after superb recent outings. Lo Celso plays in front of Eric Dier, whose main responsibility is to provide security for the back four.
