I never thought I’d say this, but Tottenham Hotspur cannot afford, under any circumstances, to lose Serge Aurier.

How opinions have altered in the last four months. Aurier, whose more erratic than they Royal Family’s decisions, has become a mainstay at Hotspur Way. He’s relied on more than a head chef at a prominent restaurant. For all his faults, Aurier has become an expected battler in our perpetual war. He’s bled for Tottenham and he’s made opponents bleed. He’s cost us a place in the later rounds of the Champions League, he’s made us go unwillingly down to 10 men on a few occasions. He’s cost us dearly. Yet he’s still needed, still desired.

AC Milan is after the passionate Ivorian and it’s Jose and Daniel’s job to dissuade him from leaving. For at this vulnerable time we cannot afford to lose our first choice right back. We need him as much as we need anyone in our starting lineup. And I know he has his faults, like most of us do. But the Ivorian shows glimpses of brilliance. Glimpses we can grab hold of and hopefully sustain, perpetuate to the fullest degree,.

Aurier deserves some praise for what he has accomplished at Spurs. Be it his brilliant strike to basically secure our progression to the Champions League Round of 16 or his superb cross to Lo Celso, who should have equalized against the Reds last weekend, Aurier deserves to be at Spurs a while longer. I judged his arrival at the club. I judged all of his time under Mauricio Pochettino. But now I see the light.

Don’t get me wrong, he still has a copious amount of flaws, but at least he bleeds white and blue. I feel he’s committed to the cause. And he’s also the only right back we have that can compete at this level. Sell him at your own peril Mr. Levy.
