The Christian Eriksen saga is finally almost over, as the Dane has agreed in principle terms that will see him go to Inter Milan.

According to The Times’ Gary Jacob, the deal will earn him around £100,000 per week after tax at the San Siro. That will make him one of Inter’s highest paid players. The writing has been on the wall since the start of the 2019-20 campaign, and Spurs supporters will be happy to have this situation finally resolved.

For all parties involved, this last six months has resembled closely the feeling of purgatory. Eriksen has wanted out for an extended period, and his performances on the field have reflected his disinterest. The deal, when confirmed, will take him through till 2024, and Spurs are looking to cash in about £20 million for their outcast midfielder.

This is the best case scenario for Spurs, who were on the cusp of losing the Dane on a free transfer at season’s end. Spurs, in 2013, only bought Eriksen for £11 million. Selling him for £20 million at this stage is an incredibly positive result, as Spurs will turn a profit on what has become a lost cause. Now Tottenham need to use that money to put towards Bruno Fernandes, who will cost about triple Eriksen’s selling price.

While Eriksen had an incredible run in Tottenham colours over the years and was a true ambassador for the side, everyone will be overtly relieved to finally see this saga come to an end.
