With Christian Eriksen’s departure in the offing, Tottenham are looking toward Norwich and Todd Cantwell to possibly fill the attacking midfield void.

Cantwell is yet another young footballer with massive potential. Often younger hyped, highly touted players don’t live up to their lofty potentials. Cantwell, however, is already thriving at the top level. He has contributed scored six goals and two assists to Norwich this season, a superb return from a 21-year-old playing on a team most likely destined to make the drop.

Annoyingly, the usual suspects are also in the hunt to sign Cantwell, who is worth a reported £30 million. Manchester City and Manchester United are both interested, but, as Bleacher Report suggests, his presence at either United or Tottenham makes the most sense.

Tottenham will desperately need a player of Cantwell’s impressive passing quality and range when Eriksen leaves. Even more exciting is Cantwell’s willingness to track back and do the dirty defensive work.

His tackling timing is exquisite and so too is his control in tight quarters. Confident on the dribble, Cantwell draws opposition players to him like a seal to a school of fish and has the mindset to distribute before getting caught in possession.

He’s got a bit of flair and chutzpah to him, too. Wearing passion on his sleeve, Cantwell has a perfect mix of devotion, professionalism and a flair for the dramatic.

Cantwell isn’t the only Norwich player Spurs are monitoring. The Max Aarons-to-Spurs rumours are picking up a head of steam. But akin to Aarons, Cantwell is too important to Norwich’s survival hopes to sell mid-season.

A more likely outcome sees both players sold when Norwich makes the drop, and Spurs should be ready for their opportunity to pounce. Both players are the genuine article. And while Aarons and Cantwell have a lot of growing and maturing to do, they are well on their way to long, fruitful careers at the top level.
