Tottenham are now 10 matches on the road without a victory after losing to Brighton in decisive fashion, further compounding Mauricio Pochettino’s misery.

The away side never looked like they had a chance in this one, such is the current crisis at the club. Disjointed and completely devoid of confidence, Tottenham are currently a mere shadow of their former selves. Neal Maupay benefited in the third minute from yet another Hugo Lloris howler.

The Frenchman palmed down for Maupay, giving the his compatriot an early Christmas present. Lloris injured himself on the play and was later taken to hospital. There is so far no news on how a severe an injury it is, but it didn’t look good.

Ben Davies and Eric Dier were provided an opportunity to impress, both of whom struggled to keep up with Brighton’s liveliness. Dier’s touch was rather brutish, something you’d see more of in lower divisions.

A palpable lack of imagination and verve headlined yet another catastrophic Spurs performance. Aaron Connolly added a brace for the home side, helping mark the first time since 1978 that Brighton scored three against Spurs. It was also the first time Spurs have lost to Brighton in the Premier League.

Tottenham have conceded at least two goals in every away match this season, a dismal stat that extends to the Champions League. Miles away from a clean sheet, Tottenham haven’t been able to keep a home side from scoring in 11 matches, since New Year’s Day away to Cardiff.

One has to wonder what needs to happen for Tottenham to show a resurgence. Pochettino hasn’t shown enough resourcefulness to chance proceedings, his side being comprehensively dominated in every aspect of the last few matches. Going away from the diamond in midfield clearly didn’t work, nor did his personnel changes.

Two shots on target against a side with only one win from seven matches prior to kickoff isn’t good enough. And even more worrying is the side’s defensive frailties. I can’t remember a time when our rearguard has been penetrated so often, so easily.

Next. Is Pochettino about to walk out on Tottenham?. dark

The question everyone wants an answer to is whether Pochettino is the man that can take Spurs back to their former glory. Or is it time the Argentinian capitulates like his team has in recent weeks?
