After signing no new first team players before last season, Tottenham Hotspur added three players for the 2019-2020 season, so what does the team look like for the new season?

Spurs are a more balanced and prepared squad than previous seasons. So, who came in and who went out and who is in the picture for the Spurs first team as the new season commences?

Spurs and the Transfer Window

Tottenham Hotspur faithful knew this was going to be a very important window, where it is not overstating things to say the future of the entire football team was on the line. Either Daniel Levy was going to step up and back Mauricio Pochettino.

With the stadium build finally behind us, Levy brought in arguably the best young midfielder available, Tanguy Ndombele, and broke the team transfer record in the process. More importantly he did so early enough in the window to allow for some real integration into the Pochettino system.

Leaving Jack Clarke aside for another day, the other two signings were typical Levy deadline day darlings. Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon had both been projected targets for Spurs all summer long.

On deadline day, Levy did what he does. With Sessegnon nursing an injury and Lo Celso coming back from major minutes in Copa America for Argentina, signing either a whole lot earlier wasn’t all that realistic. As important as the three new first-team players in for this season are the players Tottenham sold and haven’t yet sold as the Premier League Season kicks off.

Christian Eriksen was arguably one of the most talented players available all summer following his well-publicized remarks about looking for a new challenge earlier this summer. Likewise, we’ve heard for YEARS about Toby Alderweireld’s £25 million release. The funny thing is, based on everything we know to date, Toby’s release was never triggered, despite some ‘interest’ from Roma and Tottenham never received an official bid for Eriksen.

Eriksen and Alderweireld are both still Spurs, as are Danny Rose and George Kevin N’Koudou; all four of whom were players reported to be available or desiring pastures anew. Keeping all four is important. Yes, keeping N’Koudou is important, as he is always good for an assist, and based on preseason, looked like he is going to be up for pressuring the ball too. As for Rose, he’s still one of the best left backs in the Premier League and hopefully will have a favourable impact on Sessegnon’s development.

Ultimately Spurs lost five players and loaned out two more. Kieran Trippier, Vincent Janssen, and Josh Onomah were sold to Atletico Madrid, Monterrey, and Fulham, while Michel Vorm and Fernando Llorente contracts were not renewed. Cameron Carter-Vickers has been loaned to Stoke and new signing Jack Clarke back to his previous team Leeds. So, who is on the squad?
