Can Tottenham chase the title this upcoming season?
As is always the question in football at the top of the table. Can Tottenham chase the title this season or are they relegated to the role of also-rans yet again?
Yes.
Tottenham Hotspur should chase the title this season. Any doubt of that is more likely a sign of the very worrying losers attitude that has surrounded the club for years than a sign of any sort of realism.
Spurs have one of the best squads in the Premier League and more than a few standout players. They have all of the ability to accomplish the goal of chasing down Manchester City and Tottenham that no one else in the division is even close too.
Last season was a good example of how exceptional a team Tottenham are. Despite the lack of signings and a very thin squad Tottenham finished in the Champions League places and made an admirable run to the Champions League final.
What they should likely do if they are going to compromise at all is a focus on the Premier League in the beginning of the season. Tottenham lost points early on in the year that cost them later in the season. With the mental weight of knowing that they needed to make up lost ground, the team crumbled even more.
People must not forget that there was a brave and yet fleeting moment in which Tottenham did top the division. They then faded and never regained their momentum.
That is exactly why Tottenham should target a very high points total from the early part of the season. The Champions League will not have started yet and they should get out in front while they can. Tottenham still lacks the depth of Manchester City, though everyone does, and so they will need to pick their punches.

Thanks to their run in last seasons competition Tottenham will be seeded well and that can make or break a season. If they don’t have to scramble through the group stage and they manage to even rest a few players they can give themselves a headstart before the knock out rounds.
Pochettino trains his players hard, and that is the right way to do things, but it is also necessary then to take the rest tactically when it’s possible. If he can do that and get it done properly then Tottenham will be in a very good place come the end of the season and hopefully a good enough place to lift an important trophy.
