Tottenham enter chase for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos
Due to the complications surrounding their purchase of Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso Tottenham have entered the race for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.
According to Sky Sports Tottenham have entered into negotiations for Real Madrid’s Spain Under-21 international Dani Ceballos.
The Spanish playmaker is one of the most in-demand young players in the world of football at the moment and for good reason. Ceballos represents an intriguing combination of speed, technique, vision and passing ability. He would be a nearly perfect fit for Tottenham in the wake of the likely departure of Christian Eriksen.
With the Danish playmaker likely on his way out of Tottenham this summer Spurs are looking for a creative fulcrum in the position just behind the striker. Ceballos could be just that player though he is somewhat unproven.
As is true with all Real Madrid youth players he has not played very much for the first team simply because of how difficult it is to get on the pitch at Real Madrid. That said in the time he has played he has been excellent.
One does worry however that this could turn into Tottenham’s own version of Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata incident. He would be expensive to lure away from Madrid and yet without a great amount of high-level exposure he still presents something of a risk.

That said the amount of money that it would take to lure him away from Real Madrid is far less than that required to lure away Lo Celso. In addition to that, he is also very young and would present Tottenham with a good opportunity to have a high sell-on fee should the move work out in the long term.
It is suggested that Tottenham would be able to interest Real Madrid in the transfer for 45 million pounds. That is far less than the 70 million that Real Betis are holding out for in the Lo Celso deal.
At 22 years old Ceballos is likely to be ready for his time in the sun. He has been a back up at Real Madrid for a while now. His star turn in the U21’s tournament has a lot of clubs looking at him and that may seem like a better option than another year getting splinters on the bench in Madrid.
Liverpool are also rumored to be interested in the player and that is tough competition for Tottenham. That said both clubs are in a similar standing in terms of players’ opinions at the moment with Tottenham perhaps even likely to pull ahead in the graces of young players hoping to get a chance.
