While the transfer hasn’t been confirmed by the club, Jack Clarke is believed to be on his way to Tottenham, so what type of impact will the teenager have in north London next season?

The deal, said to be worth £11.5 million, will include a sell-on clause, and provide Leeds with first crack at Clarke if Spurs opt to loan him out. While highly touted, Clarke made only four starts in the Championship with Leeds last season.

He is by no means tried and tested, but Mauricio Pochettino has high hopes for the youngster. The chances of him starting next season are almost null and void, as Clarke will need time to develop his raw talent.

Clarke needs time to develop physically and add muscle mass to his scrawny frame.

He is capable, by running with trickery and pace, of putting defenders on the back foot but the 18-year-old isn’t ready for first team Premier League action yet.

It’s more likely that Clarke will earn his Spurs début in a Carabao Cup tie, or in a match in which the result has already been decided.

Clarke’s first season will resemble closely Juan Foyth’s inaugural campaign with Spurs. In 2017-18 Foyth, who was 19 when he was signed from Estudiantes, didn’t make a Premier League appearance during his first season on Hotspur Way.

The 18-year-old Englishman will add depth to the squad in 2018-19 but you’ll set yourself up for disappointment by expecting anything more. He’ll be given the necessary time to mature and develop under Pochettino’s watchful eye. Clarke will learn a lot by training with senior players, adopting tendencies and habits that will serve him well in the long run. Training with senior players should inject the confidence he’ll need when called upon in a senior match.

This signing, due to Clarke’s inexperience and inability to impact the first team in 2019-20, will have absolutely no effect on Spurs’ motivation to sign Ryan Sessegnon. The Fulham wunderkind, while only a year Clarke’s elder, is much more seasoned and has an incomparably better chance of impacting first team proceedings at Tottenham next season.

Having said that even Sessegnon, unless he surpasses all expectations, will be a bit part player during his first season at Spurs, all of which is dependant on hearing club confirmation of one, either or both prospective signings.
