Breaking news: Italian media report Ndombele to Tottenham all but finalized
By Gary Pearson
The day Tottenham supporters have been waiting weeks for is almost here, if you believe the latest report from Italian publication Gianluca Dimarzio.
The deal, said to be worth about £62 million plus bonuses, would, if confirmed, shatter Spurs’ £42 million transfer record. That record was set when Davinson Sánchez was signed from Ajax in August 2017.
The deal is said to run until June 2024, keeping the 22-year-old Frenchman at Tottenham for five seasons, more than enough time for Pochettino to turn him into the world’s best central midfielder.
The Gianluca Dimarzio report says that Ndombele is imminently on his way to London for a prerequisite medical before the deal is announced. Again, this news is by no means verified but things are looking pretty damn promising in N17.
It’s the kind of good news that Tottenham faithful have waited for since the devastating Champions League Final defeat over three weeks ago. Posturing and agonizing negotiations left Spurs supporters wondering if, like so many other previous potential deals, this deal was bound to fall through.
All parties, Ndombele, Spurs and Lyon, are devoted to getting this deal across the line, as the Ligue 1 side is set to make an astronomical profit since buying Ndombele for only £7 million a year ago.
Spurs will gain one of the most promising midfield players in world football, the type of talent who could transform the side, bolstering Tottenham’s chances of returning to the Champions League Final while competing at the top for a Premier League title.
Ndombele would almost certainly get first team football in the world’s highest profile league with England’s most consistent side in the last half decade. He’ll also earn a significant pay rise. The deal benefits greatly all three parties, and it’s is all but complete.
Oh, and it would allow Spurs supporters to rest easy for the rest of the summer, even if it’s Daniel Levy’s only major move of the silly transfer season. What a cure for insomnia this will be.
Getting this deal across the line – which is on the cusp of actually happening – means everything to Spurs, who will rejoice once confirmation of the epic deal is received.
