Though there have been many positives at Tottenham Hotspur in the past season, the progression in attitude change for creative midfielder Christian Eriksen has not been one of them.

Christian Eriksen does not want to play for Tottenham Hotspur anymore.  With only a year left in his contract, he doesn’t want to play in the Premier League.  This is as close to the definition of a bad situation as can exist in football.  Eriksen is one of the best players in Europe, and one of the reasons why Tottenham have been on such an upward trajectory.

What makes this worse though is his contract situation.  One of the only things that could really help heal the wounds of Eriksen’s exit would be the amount of money Tottenham could dry their tears with.  The closer that he gets to an expired contract, though, the more his market price rockets downward.

His main potential suitors are still Real Madrid.  Though for the first time in ages they appear to be running out of money.  No longer do they have access to the easily affordable, non-interest bank loans that the King of Spain used to assure them, the Madrid-based giants are finally having to play by the rules.  They can no longer spend the vast amounts of wealth in a summer that can sustain other clubs for years at a time. Or at least they’re claiming that they can’t.

To compound the issues, it seems Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has chosen Paul Pogba as the midfielder of choice to help with his Real revolution.  It looks like his choice is made and there’s no debating that. With Real likely to have to pay a huge fee for Pogba, and the Frenchman already suggesting that he’s willing to do whatever is necessary to make the transfer happen, it seems a likely eventuality.

That would put Spurs in the unenviable position of needing to find another suitor for their star player.  Juventus, as well as Bayern Munich, will be in the market this summer.  Manchester United would likely be very interested in the player but he has already stated he’s not interested in the Premier League anymore. And you’d hope Tottenham would never sell Eriksen to a rival English club.

With every new day Eriksen’s value could decrease, possibly lowering the kitty that Tottenham will invariably use to source a suitable replacement for the little Danish magician.
