Tottenham Twitter Tuesday: paying homage to marvellous Moussa
By Gary Pearson
With another Premier League season in the books, let’s take a look back at some of the most memorable moments while also paying homage to Moussa Sissoko, who enjoyed a bounce-back campaign for the ages.
Another season to remember
Tottenham, for the fourth season on the trot, finished in the top four places of the Premier League. Finishing with guaranteed entry into the Champions League every season since 2015, and all with a shoestring transfer spend and more injuries than you’d see in rally bike racing, is an extraordinary achievement.
A bit of boasting for Spurs fans, after a watching the lads persevere through a long, particularly gruelling season, is warranted. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are too noble and humble to pour salt on their North-London counterparts’ wounds, but finishing ahead of Arsenal three seasons running is worth praising.
The gaffer is right in saying that Spurs have more pressing priorities – like the Champions League final, for one – than worrying about bettering the Gunners. But topping our loathed rivals will always be a priority for Tottenham supporters, as it brings childlike joy and giddiness; admittedly, not as much as reaching the Champions League final. And Arsenal never should have pipped us at the line on the last day of the 2015/16 campaign.

Moussa the marvellous
Moussa Sissoko, after enduring an extended miserable period with Spurs, deserves the adulation and respect of a warrior for turning his career around. Had Son Heung-Min not enjoyed such a sensational season, Moussa would have been a shoo-in to take 2018/19 Player of the Season honours. He was one of the first names on the gaffer’s team sheet, and consistently showed why Pochettino has so much faith in him.
With marauding runs and power you’d expect from a bull, Moussa commands respect from players and supporters alike. More impressive is the way he reacted to being ostracized in previous seasons by large contingents of the Tottenham faithful.
True champions bounce back, prove their worth and get on with things. He never complained – even during palpable adversity – and won his place back in the team through sheer commitment and determination. For that he deserves the utmost adoration. And yes, Moussa, everyone certainly knows your true person.
Hopefully Moussa locates some shooting boots during the summer, as finding a scoring touch would elevate his game to parallel some of the best central midfielders in world football.

Sonny, the legend
The feeling is mutual, Sonny. Having a true ambassador like Son Heung-Min ply his trade weekly for Spurs is as exhilarating as it is an honour. Spurs’ 2018/19 Player of the Season is not only a testament to football, but to humanity as well. And it’s been a pleasure watching his evolution since the 23-year-old upstart joined Spurs in 2015.
